Graduate from an ineligible high school, complete an ineligible home study program, or earn a GED, and score in the national composite 85th percentile or higher on the SAT or ACT tests

For purposes of the HOPE Scholarship program, an ineligible high school and an ineligible home study program are defined as a school or program that is not accredited by one of the accrediting agencies listed in below.

  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (or has been accredited within the last two years);
  • Georgia Accrediting Commission;
  • Georgia Association of Christian Schools;
  • Association of Christian Schools International;
  • Georgia Private School Accreditation Council; or
  • Southern Association of Independent Colleges.

If the high school or home study program is located outside the state of Georgia:

  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools;
  • New England Association of Colleges and Schools;
  • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools;
  • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools;
  • Northwest Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges
  • Alabama Independent School Association; or
  • Florida Council of Independent Schools
  1. A student who graduates from an ineligible high school or completes an ineligible home study program may qualify for the HOPE Scholarship as an entering college freshman if such student scores in or above the national composite 85th percentile on the SAT or ACT tests.

    Currently, a composite score of 1850 on the SAT or a composite score of 26 on the ACT is required to meet these criteria. If you believe you meet the qualifications to receive the HOPE Scholarship based on your SAT/ACT percentile ranking, you must print and complete the following form and submit it to the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

  2. A student who earned a GED (General Education Development) diploma in Georgia after June 30, 1993, in lieu of graduating from high school or completing a home study program, may qualify for the HOPE Scholarship as an entering college freshman if such student scores in or above the national composite 85th percentile on the SAT or ACT tests.

    Currently, a composite score of 1850 on the SAT or a composite score of 26 on the ACT is required to meet these criteria.
