Summer Internship
June 18, 2008
Wow. Summer is here and school is over. I am going to be a senior next year -- I cannot believe it.
I have been working at my internship for over a week now, and I've been busy as can be. All day I'm in front of my computer, except during a 30-minute lunch break.
One problem that I have run into is having to multi-task. I am not talking about doing one thing after another, but rather having three to five projects on the go at the same time. Believe it or not, I kind of like it. The workday goes by really quickly, which is always a good thing.
The other problem that I've encountered is that I do not have all of the necessary programs on my work computer. I constantly have to move files from my home computer back to my office computer.
It is starting to be a lot of fun for me, though. This summer I am finally getting the chance to design things myself and put my own creative touch on projects. I am really excited to continue to work this summer and possibly part time during the school year.
As far as school goes, I have completed all of the requirements for my major and art minor. I have one more class to take next quarter to complete my business minor, and then a few more classes to finish up general university requirements. It should be an easier year for me.
I hope you all had a good time reading about my life and what I am doing in college. I hope I can finish my next year strong and get a job soon after I graduate, but I would like to take some time off right after school to travel in Europe for a while. I am not sure how well that will work out with the current economy, but who knows? I cannot wait to have my new camera with me when I travel to document some amazing moments with beautiful photos.
Ciao!
Lessons Learned
June 2, 2008
I am officially done with my junior quarter. I took my accounting final this morning, and I think it went pretty well. I am excited to get it back to see how I did in the class overall.
I have the final critique for my other art class today. I have finished my project, and it is just a matter of installing it the way I want it so that I can present it to the class. I think, overall, the project turned out really well. The combination of my photography and the unique technique of laser engraving looks fantastic -- at least I think it does.
I am using about eight photos that are engraved on the metal plates to surround a print I did of downtown Denver. I use a string to connect the images to the print to show where I took them. I like how it turned out, and I cannot wait to get some feedback.
I am not as pleased with the photography book that I made. I am very critical of my own photography work, which may be part of the reason, but I just feel that a few things could have been better.
I am really excited to be done with my junior year, but, wow, am I really ready to go out the door to the real world to find a job?
Hopefully things will work out and I can have a job lined up once I graduate. My ideal plan is to start a job mid-July or August after I graduate, giving me a month or two off from school. I really want to go back to Rome and travel all over Europe again.
One word of advice: if you use your computer a lot and have a ton of files, get a huge external hard drive so you can back up all of your stuff. My computer crashed again, but lucky enough for me, I messed around with it and got it back up and running without losing anything. I went out and got a hard drive right away, and now everything is backed up. Losing all of that information would be like losing all of my homework and every project I have ever done, leaving me with nothing. Back up your stuff!!
