CAMPUS SUMMARY
Oglethorpe University, founded in 1835, is a private, coeducational liberal arts university in the Southeast’s leading metropolis, Atlanta. Located on 100 acres north of Buckhead, the campus is minutes from all Atlanta has to offer – internships, shopping, cultural and sporting events. A diverse student body encourages cultural exploration.

Oglethorpe’s 13:1 student-faculty ratio guarantees personal attention for each student on their academic journey. Popular majors include Business Administration, Communication and Rhetoric Studies, Accounting and Psychology, though Oglethorpe offers 28 majors in all. Students may also design their own major (with faculty approval), focusing on interdisciplinary studies.

Oglethorpe’s residential campus houses over 700 students in nine residence halls and a six-house Greek Row. Four residence halls, built since 2005, feature private bedrooms with shared bathrooms and common areas along card-access hallways. Oglethorpe’s 14 athletic teams provide plenty of opportunities for the campus community to show school spirit.

Oglethorpe students learn to make a life, make a living and make a difference. As Oglethorpe President Lawrence M. Schall states, students are being educated for their third or fourth career, in addition to their first. Oglethorpe alumni graduate with the ability to think, contribute and act as responsible and entrepreneurial citizens. Graduates go on to the most selective graduate programs in the country; over 80% (double the national average) of Oglethorpe students applying to medical school are admitted.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Oglethorpe offers a handful of specialty programs. The unique Core Curriculum is the foundation of an Oglethorpe education, grounding students in the classical literature that truly defines a liberal arts education.

Oglethorpe’s Center for Civic Engagement, opened in November 2006, offers service-learning initiatives through partnerships with local schools and non-profits, as well as cultural trips of Atlanta through the OUr Atlanta program. Through center programs students meet with the leaders of Atlanta’s business and cultural leaders at the institutions they support, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, High Museum of Art, Atlanta Hawks and 7 Stages Theatre.

Oglethorpe students also benefit from the university’s unique airline partnership program. Students have taken day trips with classes to New York City, Chicago and Washington, D.C. to explore museums, theatre, neighborhoods, businesses, politics and culture.

The Rich Foundation Urban Leadership Program exposes students to civic life while researching the history and philosophy of citizen-leadership through the ages. The Urban Ecology Program, led by one of the first Ph.D. urban ecologists in the nation, combines ecology, environmental science, economics, psychology and public policy to produce scientists and urban planners focused on sustainable, equitable urban growth. Oglethorpe University Students Abroad (OUSA) supports international study through partner institutions, short-term trips and associate programs at Oxford University in England and Umbra Institute in Italy.
